What is FIS?
The goal of Frontiers in Science (FIS) is to introduce undergraduate students to research in the sciences. Each spring, approximately 10-15 undergraduate students (primarily in the Houston area) are selected to participate in a paid 12-week research project at the Center for Theoretical Biological Physics (nodes at Rice University and Northeastern University). Each participant is paired with a graduate student or post-doctoral mentor, with whom they conduct research on pressing scientific questions. While the center is focused on biological problems, students from all areas of STEM are encouraged to apply. It is expected that most participants will have no prior research experience.
